Cloud computing is the general term for anything to do with providing hosted services over the Internet. Unconsciously, you are already using cloud computing in both business and personal life.
Whether you're sending an e-mail, holding a Teams meeting or watching a great movie on Netflix, you're using cloud computing.
How does cloud computing work?
Cloud computing works by giving your devices (laptop, smartpone, tablet) access to remote servers where your data such as software, emails, music is stored.
Because your documents, software and emails move into the cloud, you can easily work anywhere you have internet access. You can also always get to the sofware you want on all your devices (laptop, smartpone, tablet).
Your computer connects via the Internet to a remote server where your data resides.
Examples of cloud computing
- Google Docs, Microsoft Office 365:
Users can access Google Docs and Microsoft Office 365 via the Internet. This allows you to work more productively because you can access documents and spreadsheets stored in the cloud anytime, anywhere on any device.
- Email, calendar:
Emails and calendars benefit from the cloud's ability to give users remote access to data, allowing them to access their personal data on any device, anywhere, anytime.
- Telephony:
Cloud-based calling is on a steep rise. For example, your business telephony is hosted in the cloud and you can make independent calls both from a landline or computer.
